Pop Goes the Credit Score

Filed under: Uncategorized — by Stephanie on March 8, 2007 @ 9:41 am

Well crap. My school sent me a “Notice of Delinquency” today. They’re going to send my account to collections unless I pay them the $500 I still owe them.

Crap, crap, crap.

No, I don’t have $500 to pay them with. An old paycheck of mine from my summer job was supposedly sent out this week - if I get that, I should be able to make the payment.

If not, my account will go to collections, and my carefully crafted credit score will curl up and die.

For the record, I’m pretty mad about this payment to begin with. No, I’m not “refusing to pay out of anger” or anything, but over $400 of this charge was for two weeks of housing. My rent there for three months was $990. Someone tell me how that works? Anyways have been trying to pull together the payment for the past two months.

No luck, and now I’m in trouble.

In trouble, and kinda pissed off, too. Argh!

  1. Credit scores don’t curl up and die, they just take off for short vacation. It will be back soon, with a nice tan and maybe gain some pounds. ;)

  2. I’d be happy to lend you some money for this kind of emergency, and I’m sure the other readers of your blog feel the same way.

So, why not request to borrow money at Prosper.com - All your readers can throw down as much as they are comfortable with - $5 on up, and in no time, we’re helping you out.

  3. Dan: I’m not sure if it’s changed since I first checked it out, but for Prosper, isn’t the minimum a person can contribute to a loan $50? It’s nice to think I might have 10 readers that would all lend me $50, but I’m exploring some other options first. I’ll let you know if I do post a loan request on Prosper, though.

  4. Steph, have you called your university financial department to talk with someone about your dire situation? They may be willing to work with you in smaller payments.

I was piss poor at the beginning of this semester because of having to hire a lawyer over that damned lawsuit - I couldn’t even afford my books.

I spoke with someone on campus and they actually waived my book fees (over $300) since I was pulling in a 4.0 GPA

It never hurts to explore all your options.

    =^..^=

  5. Ouch! ~

I had an $800 bill from my U, and boy did I pay that sucker off quick. There’s no way in hell I’m going to tarnish my golden score of 758 until I buy my house! lol.

  6. Jennifer: I just called and asked, and the supervisor (or whoever it is) is going to call me back. That might not be until Monday, since today is Friday and all. So I won’t know much until they call me back.

  7. I would definitely recommend the Prosper loan as a last resort.
