I'm mostly used to dealing with co-op style internships (because they're required for 90% of the majors at my college), so employers have always looked pretty highly on the co-ops/internships that I've seen other people do. I'm looking for an internship myself because, frankly, I'm not interested in doing the work my degree is in. I'm hoping an internship will help me to bridge into the things that I should have majored in, in the first place. (Also, I'm looking at a job field that is highly unionized - the only way in is through internships or unpaid work.) Depends on the internship, of course. Most people who are hiring candidates know that most internships don't give you any responsibility and your resume is just fluffing over that. What about the internships that do give you responsibility? The employers usually know who they are. What I did, and what I advocate, is getting "real" jobs.
