Ya, that song is very catchy. I find myself singing it in my head probably at least a few times a month. The problem is Freecreditreport is a for profit business an they are making much more then they are spending to advertise. Annual credit report cannot match that because they are spending tax dollars. We certainly don't want annual credit report to have a spend off with free credit report with our money.

I always feel very distracted and disappointed when someone pays for a service which can be availed without money. I think internet is a wonderful media which provide many services in free which can cost someone plenty of money. Your parents are not alone who are cheated but this world is full of cheated people. My parents are one of those but I was able to convince them a few months ago.

I have shown CreditKarma and AnnualCreditReport.com to so many friends of mine and they are all so greatful about it. It's true that those commercials for freeCreditReport.com are fun and have catchy songs, but like anything you've got to read the fine print! Good thing your parents happened to mention it to you or they'd be paying $15 dollars a month for something they probably didn't even realize they had!

Thanks for letting me know about CreditKarma. My mom keeps talking about what a scam it is that you have to pay to see your score. I'll show her that.

Sneaky. It's unbelievable what companies will put out there to try to lead people to buy into their "services." I agree that the government should be able to do a little bit more to provide insurance that people aren't victimized by shady companies. Sorry this happened to your family...

Alas, it is quite unfortunate that so many people seem to have been taken in by the 'FreeCreditReport' commercials. It does seem there should be more the federal government can do to prevent the rather misleading ads that Experian keeps putting out; requiring them to detail all the fine print about the 'Triple Advantage' plan in the catchy, up-beat song would be a nice touch.

Sorry that your mothers were taken in by this advertising campaign, but hopefully, if you, I, and everyone else who writes about personal finance keeps harping on this, they can be some of the last ones who are fooled.
