This month can’t pass without some bittersweetness. It’s one of the very last of my college career, and the real world looms heavy on the landscape. Oh, alright – I’ll just admit it: I’m terrified. Blah! At least I can always rely on the numbers – here’s how January stacked up:
Change: $68 or 0.18 %
Not great, not bad, just… January. I only got one paycheck in January, or else it would have been higher. As of January 30th, that job is done… forever. Which is bizarre to me, since I’ve been working there since September of 2005. It’s time to move on and find "career work" now.
Oh, and my one share of Kodak stock is down to less than $5 now – it was at $26 when I started tracking with NetworthIQ. How depressing is that? It also gives you some idea of the economy of my area – for many years, Rochester relied on Kodak as a big source of revenue and employment.
Fun times. Let’s see how I can make it work for February… and beyond.
For a look at my assets and liabilities, check out my NetworthIQ for January. For an explanation of the categories I use, check out the bottom of my entry about February’s net worth balance.
I was thinking of going to school with hopes for working for Kodak out of Rochester. Guess its a good thing I didn’t, or else I couldn’t pay my bills.
@Katrina – I don’t know anything about the hiring environment at Kodak right now, so I can’t say anything on that front. A lot of stocks are down right now because of the economy, but Kodak has been hurting for a long, long time because of the digital photography revolution. Layoffs from Kodak are old news in Rochester – there was actually a newspaper article here a few years ago that started out with “Layoffs at Kodak are hardly news anymore…”
It’s still a great place to work for many people, but it’s not as secure as it used to be. If you think about it, no job is really secure. I hold Kodak very dear to my heart (as a life-long Rochesterian), and I hope that the leadership can find some innovations to boost the company up.
That’s cool that you are “up” — hehe, even though it is just a slight amount. Every dollar (and penny) counts!
